When Maryland State Senator Justin Ready (R–Dist. 5) speaks, he does something that too many of our elected officials in Annapolis refuse to do: he actually listens to the people he represents. In a recent statement, Ready laid out the frustrations shared by thousands of Marylanders—rising taxes and fees, reckless land grabs, unsafe neighborhoods, and tone-deaf leadership that prioritizes fringe issues over the day-to-day struggles of working families.
“Every day I hear stories of people who are struggling to pay the doubled car tax and higher cost of living brought on by @GovWesMoore and Annapolis Democrats’ increasing taxes and fees. We have an eminent domain land grab being attempted in #CarrollCountyMD, #FrederickCountyMD and Northern #BaltimoreCountyMD by an out of state corporation. We also still have intense crime in many areas of our state that makes neighborhoods unsafe for families and seniors. So why is so much attention being paid to an illegal immigrant with a criminal record being deported and fighting about Washington DC politics? Marylanders need Governor Moore and our Annapolis and federal leaders to focus on making things better for people on the ground here—in our state.”
The Disconnect Between Moore and Maryland Families
Governor Wes Moore and the progressive wing of the Democratic Party in Maryland have made a habit of focusing their political capital on virtue signaling and Beltway politics instead of the kitchen-table issues crushing Maryland families. Doubling car taxes and layering on higher fees may excite state bureaucrats with new revenue, but it is everyday Marylanders—families trying to make ends meet, seniors on fixed incomes, and small business owners—who are footing the bill.
Meanwhile, crime continues to destabilize neighborhoods from Baltimore City to the suburbs, yet Moore spends more time talking about national talking points than securing safer streets. The people who have to live with break-ins, carjackings, and drug-driven violence deserve more than platitudes.
Land Grabs and the Threat to Local Communities
Ready is also right to highlight a growing but under-reported problem: eminent domain and land seizures on behalf of corporate projects. In Carroll, Frederick, and Northern Baltimore Counties, out-of-state developers are attempting to steamroll residents and property rights, with Annapolis Democrats enabling them. Marylanders have a long tradition of protecting their land and communities, and watching their state government side with corporate outsiders against local families is nothing short of betrayal.
Misplaced Priorities on Immigration and DC Politics
Instead of focusing on real problems—crime, affordability, infrastructure—Moore and his allies have been bending over backwards to play national politics. Why are Annapolis leaders fixated on an illegal immigrant with a criminal record fighting deportation, while Maryland families are being buried under taxes, crime, and government overreach? It’s political theater at its worst, and Marylanders are tired of being the pawns.
What Maryland Really Needs
Justin Ready’s comments cut through the noise and capture what’s missing in Annapolis: practical, sound leadership that puts Marylanders first. This is not about left versus right—it’s about priorities. Families want safer streets, affordable living, fair governance, and leaders who focus on Maryland, not Washington headlines.
Governor Wes Moore can keep chasing the applause of progressives, but if he continues ignoring the voices of his own constituents, Maryland’s one-party monopoly will only grow more brittle. Ready is showing what real leadership looks like: listening, standing up for communities, and demanding accountability. That is exactly what Maryland needs.
