The Fixer: Donnie Gamache and the Family Court Cartel

“It’s like they all partied together—and now they protect each other in court. That’s why no one will stand up to Donnie.” — William H. Sewell

Introduction: A System Built Around One Man

In the Lowcountry of South Carolina, there exists a name that does not just echo in the courthouse halls—it commands them. Donnie Gamache. Once the Dorchester County Sheriff, now a family law attorney, Gamache represents a quiet but forceful consolidation of power that, according to numerous accounts, has corrupted the family court process and left innocent people ruined in its wake.

This is not just about a man. It’s about a machine—an intricate, well-oiled network of political loyalty, mutual blackmail, and institutional silence. For William Sewell, the family court wasn’t just a courtroom. It was a battlefield rigged before he stepped on it.

The Man Behind the Curtain

William describes Gamache as the ringleader of a legal mafia—someone who doesn’t just play the game, but rewrites the rules. As a former sheriff, Gamache has decades of connections that stretch across judges, clerks, social workers, law enforcement, and even rival attorneys. When William’s case heated up, he quickly discovered that everyone in the system seemed to know Donnie. And feared him.

One DSS employee reportedly said, “We know Donnie very well. We work with him daily.” Another clerk became visibly uncomfortable when William mentioned Gamache’s name. Over and over again, doors slammed shut when Donnie came up.

Rewriting the Narrative

The manipulation didn’t stop at intimidation. According to William, Gamache pre-staged legal paperwork to reopen his divorce case after it had been closed. In a stunning reversal, William was transformed from plaintiff to defendant with almost no explanation—a procedural sleight of hand that stripped him of the legal ground he had already gained.

And it didn’t stop there. At a temporary hearing, Gamache allegedly launched a blitz of false accusations: William was a drunk, a drug addict, an abuser, a deadbeat dad. There was no proof. His attorney, Jonathan Lewis, reportedly sat in silence. Why? Because he and Donnie were “good buddies,” William says.

By the end of that hearing, William’s daughter was gone. Sole custody was handed to his ex-wife. The kicker? William claims Gamache wrote the order himself. The judge merely signed it.

A Profitable Cycle of Pain

Gamache isn’t just winning cases. He’s allegedly orchestrating the entire ecosystem around them.

William was threatened with jail over a $25,000 Guardian ad Litem fee he never agreed to. When he tried to get help, he found out the GAL—Jason Wheeler—had already completed his investigation. Yet the case dragged on, bleeding William dry.

The story deepens with allegations that Gamache hand-picked mediators, like his friend Joseph Serrato, and influenced GAL appointments, and even the assignment of the judge, selecting Judge Mandy Kimmons. It wasn’t about the best interests of the child. It was about keeping control, keeping the referrals in the circle, and keeping the money flowing.

This isn’t law. It’s a pipeline of pain. A revolving door of roles that keeps profits high and resistance low.

The Unspoken Pact

But how does this all stay hidden? Why doesn’t someone speak out?

William believes the answer lies in a shared past of corruption:

“They’ve all partied together… Donnie knows where the bodies are buried. That’s why no one will cross him.”

The lawyers won’t challenge him because they fear what he might expose. The judges won’t recuse themselves because they’re socially and politically tied to the same circles. The clerks won’t talk because they know better. And the media? One reporter initially showed interest, but disappeared as quickly as she appeared after asking a few questions.

William says every time he got close to pulling back the curtain, or even someone to help him, someone slammed it shut. And then locked the door. He’s left unrepresented and isolated from any help.

Obstructed and Retaliated

At every turn, William runs into a dead end—especially when he brings up Donnie Gamache’s name. This is not how justice is supposed to work. A parent navigating family court should not be stonewalled or retaliated against simply for identifying corruption. There should not be institutional barriers created by the influence or control an opposing attorney holds over the court, its staff, and affiliated agencies. Yet that’s exactly what William encountered. He even asked other attorneys for help, and all he heard was:

“I don’t face Donnie.”

When William went higher—to the Attorney General’s Office, to DSS, to clerks of court—he was met with silence. Worse, he believes the complaints were leaked back to the people they targeted.

“Once Donnie’s name came up, they all backed off. They’re protecting their own, or themselves.”

Procedural games replaced due process. Important filings vanished. Deadlines were manipulated. Evidence was ignored. And all the while, William’s relationship with his daughter has eroded further.

Public Reviews Tell the Same Story

There is an unusual and excessive number of positive reviews for an attorney, probably fabricated by Donnie and his team. Whoever, there are still multiple public reviews mixed in across a decade that point to a consistent pattern of abuse, negligence, and aggression by Donnie Gamache:

  • Ana Z. (Summerville, SC – April 2024): “Dropped out from court week before. HIGHLY don’t recommend. Doesn’t give good advice and doesn’t tell you what you did wrong.”
  • Adam C. (Summerville, SC – Oct 2013): “If I could give this guy a 0 I would… You will wind up with a phone call from him threatening to rip your lips off… missed deadlines, poor communication, admitted fault in front of judge… physically threatened me after I used the same language he used on me.”
  • Anonymous Review: “Donnie Gamache is a little man with a big ego… rude, condescending, and EXTREMELY unprofessional. He does not return calls. He belittles clients and despises being questioned… degrades women.”
  • Heidi Grooms (Google Review, 2021): “By far the worst attorney I have heard of. For some reason his bill is outrageous while doing absolutely nothing. If I could rate him a zero I would.”

These aren’t isolated complaints. They reflect a pattern of alleged abuse—both legal and personal—of clients who trusted him during vulnerable times.

The Bigger Picture: Racketeering in a Robe?

The patterns are unmistakable. What William describes isn’t just one bad lawyer. It’s systemic:

  • Legal professionals switching roles in each other’s cases
  • GAL appointments handed out like favors
  • Mediation referrals tied to financial incentives
  • Judges selected and rulings based on relationships, not facts

If it weren’t inside a courtroom, the DOJ might call it racketeering. But because it wears the veneer of legal legitimacy, it’s allowed to flourish unchecked.

Conclusion: One Man, Many Victims

Donnie Gamache may never be indicted. He may never be investigated. But if the testimonies and outcomes surrounding his cases are true, he doesn’t need a badge or a gavel to control lives.

William Sewell is just one of many who have felt the weight of that control. For him, the court wasn’t a place of justice. It was a trap.

🔥 Call to Action: Disbar the Fixer

Attorneys like Donnie Gamache don’t belong in a courtroom—they belong in handcuffs. When the legal system becomes a playground for backroom deals, blackmail, and unchecked power, the damage ripples far beyond a single case. It destroys families, silences justice, and turns the courthouse into a crime scene in plain sight.

We must draw the line. Demand that South Carolina’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel launch a full investigation. Demand that Donnie Gamache be disbarred and held accountable for the lives he’s upended.

Corruption wrapped in a suit is still corruption.

➡️ Shine a light on the “good ol’ boy” network before it ruins another life.

Justice for William Sewell begins with accountability for Donnie Gamache.
